Quality Control tools at Overaseas Translations
Overseas Translations pays special attention to the quality delivered to our clients and it has always been our priority number one. In order to be able to provide that top quality, it is not enough to focus just on a few items, but create a system that involves humans as well as computer tools.
Overseas Translations team
For us, increasing the human potential is crucial and we focus on constant development and improvement of our team. The proper training on the tools used and linguistic or non-linguistic verification of the documents together with the experience gained through Project Management, lead to success. All the internal training material is documented and updated on a regular basis and we discuss the latest projects and challenges found in order to be able to improve our internal processes and learn something new every day.
We also pay special attention to linguist selection. We already have our data base of target-native, preferred linguists for each field of expertise and whenever possible, the translation is performed by the “client-preferred” team of linguists. Since the translators are part of our team, we have also created specific reference documentation for them and we provide them with constant feedback that helps to improve on both, translator and production side.
However, in order to simplify the human work, there are several tools that we can use on a daily basis to improve the quality of the translations we deliver to our clients. One of them is the software that we use for the translation process, which enables:
- the creation of a Translation Memory for each client, that is applied on every project and which helps to maintain the same terminology and consistency with previously translated content;
- the application of a glossary that has been created for a client, that can be easily verified with terms highlighted in the translation column which, depending on the colour they appear in, tell us whether the glossary term has been used correctly or not;
- the transcheck, which means: numerical and punctuation check, source and target consistency check, among other options, that can be performed within the same document or between several documents of the same project.
The production team is responsible for the maintenance and updates done to the Translation Memory that in order to be useful, needs to be constantly updated, especially after the internal quality control step (verification of the translated document performed by the Project Manager) and after any client revision, when it is crucial to implement client changes into their TM.
It is also the Project Manager, together with the corresponding linguists, who create the glossaries for our clients and keep them up to date by implementing new terminology or updating the terms according to client preferences.
As some clients have specific instructions that apply to all projects or certain style preferences, we also build Style Guides that contain all that client-specific information. This enables both translators and our production team to become experts in understanding client needs and exceed their expectations.
All of the above, together with the internal Quality Control check performed by our Project Managers that is done in the CAT tool and on paper, on the printed version of the documents, help us guarantee the top quality delivered to our clients.
What really matters is teamwork and as long as all of us work toward the same goal, we can assure that the end result is going to be far beyond excellent.
